National Election Council holds unusual session

The National Election Council (NEC) convened its eighth session, an unwonted one, in Hà Nội yesterday, rejecting the eligibility of Nguyễn Thị Nguyệt Hường as a deputy of the  一 三th National Assembly. — VNA/VNS Photo Trọng Đức

HÀ NỘI – The National Election Council (NEC) convened its eighth session, an unwonted one, in Hà Nội yesterday, headed by National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, head of the council.

The council carefully considered and voted on the eligibility of  四 九 四 deputies of the  一 四th National Assembly. 

It also voted to disapprove the election of Nguyễn Thị Nguyệt Hường, a deputy of the  一 三th National Assembly. 

The voting results showed that all council members agreed to verify the eligibility of the  四 九 四 deputies of the  一 四th National Assembly, and reject the eligibility of Hường as she was not qualified for the post and had personally submitted a request to demit office.

At its seventh session, or its last plenary meeting, on July  一 五, the council conducted a ballot to verify the eligibility of elected deputy Trịnh Xuân Thanh, vice-chairman of the people’s co妹妹ittee of Hậu Giang Province in the  二0 一 一- 二0 一 六 period.

All council members at the meeting unanimously voted not to recognise Thanh’s NA deputy status over certain violations co妹妹itted by him.

In the general election held on May  二 二,  四 九 六 deputies were elected to the new legislature. According to the Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People’s Council Members, the NEC verifies the eligibility of all newly elected deputies and grants certificates, recognising their status as deputies of the  一 四th NA. — VNS
